And by the way, Hank, I found something today that blew me away and thought I'd share it, in case you haven't seen it yet - the only known film of Ros Sereysothea on Youtube. I thought it was fake when I heard about it, but it's not. A very emotional experience. Are you ready? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f8Cwvq3jzQ4
What's the (approx.) date of this LP? I can't read the notes, the res. is too low.
Can anyone shed some light on this grup; where were they active? What language/s did they sing in? They cover several genres here. 'Boneka' doesn't sounds particularly like 'std.' kroncong sub-genres, but like a mid 20th c. pop song, with triadic 2 violin harmony and a Hawaiian guitar solo. The Hawaiian theme crops up in several songs.
On the other hand 'Andeande Lumut' sounds like early langgam jawa, incl. an andhegan, ciblon style selo(cello) part, the unusual (for langgam) kecrek-like jingle part, the sinden jawa vocal quality, and the satisfying irama change. 'Padjar' also appears to be an early langgam song. In addition to the characteristics of the previous song, the "kethuk" part is very prominent in this song (played by what instrument?).
Listening again to the last 2 songs, I don't hear the cak/cuk (ukele/banyo) parts, characteristic of all genres of kroncong, or are they buried on the LP's surface crackle?
On the other hand I do hear the cuk at least in the furiously- paced 'Pangeran Tjakraningrat' & other songs. What drum-like instr. is playing on every downbeat?
"Padang Bulan" is a particularly Javanese gamelan-like and enak-enak langgam.
Musik keroncong selalu menarik. Hanya ada kesan penggemarnya dari kalangan tua saja. Tetapi di Semarang ada Congrock (Keroncong Ngerok) pimpinan Marco Manardi. Mengenalkan musik keroncong pada generasi muda.
Thanks for the incredible keroncong music Henk i've always been a big fan. Anyway, i've dl your album of "Orkes Krontjong Tjendrawasih" and applied a software to it to clean out the pops and crackles. If anyone's interested i can upload it somewhere to you or for all to share. It's pretty much "cleaner" i think. Kindly lemmi know if it's worth anything to anybody? Cheers!
sangat disayangkan sekarang ini dukungan media telepvisi baik swasta maupun nasional jarang ada menampilkan musik keroncong, sehingga keberadaanya akan semakin mengkhawatirkan
